"We demand Justice, not impunity"

Call for Solidarity with Honduras from CIFCA, FIDH, FIAN, Grupo Sur, Solidarité mondiale, ALOP , January 27 at 11:00 am, in front of the Belgium Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The international community should not recognize the new illegitimate government of Porfirio Lobo Soza

Victim of repression in Honduras: Isis Obed MurilloWith regards to  the succession of the de facto government of Micheletti to the new illegitimate government of Porfirio Lobo Soza next January 27, we deplore that with this act continuity will be brought to the anti-democratic and anti-constitutional processes that have affected the people and the democracy in Honduras since the coup d'état on June 28.

Despite the attempts of Porfirio Lobo to persuade the international community of his non-involvement in the coup d'état, it has been demonstrated that he and his party have supported continuously and systematically the coup d'état and the crimes committed by the coup regime. Furhermore, Porfirio Lobo Soza has neither condemned the  human rights violations and the killings perpetrated by the coup forces during these past months , nor has he contributed to fulfilling the Guaymuras / San José Agreement for the restoration of democracy.
With the inauguration of the new illegitimate government, the coup forces want to conclude successfully a strategy implemented since the very first time of the usurpation of the government: to ex post legitimize the coup d'état through elections referred to them as  democratic,  and the transition to a government that they claim to be democratically elected. Moreover, this transition intends to grant amnesty and impunity for all the political crimes and human rights violations committed since June 28.

Therefore, the international community should not become accomplices in this strategy of oblivion and pardon of  the crimes committed but should maintain the position taken in the aftermath of the coup d'état: condemn it;  demand the restitution of the democratic and constitutional order, the non-recognition of the illegitimate government, maintain the sanctions , demand the verification of the human rights violations, contribute to the protection of the human rights defenders and the participants of the resistance movement, demand the respect of freedom of speech and the protection of the media and all those who have been victims of the repression.

In this regard,  we call for the civil society organization to undertake peaceful activities of protest  and demonstration in front of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of your respective countries in order to demand:
" Justice for the victims of the repression in the aftermath of the coup d'état in Honduras ;
" Clear position of the governments to not accept neither amnesty nor impunity for the political crimes and human rights violations committed since the coup d'état
" Clear signs that the governments will not recognise the new illegitimate government of Porfirio Lobo Soza, and that they will maintain and strengthen the imposed sanctions.
" Political and practical expressions in support of the human rights defenders in order to contribute to the protection of the persons affected by the repression, political persecution and to the effective investigation of the human rights violations   committed since June 28.

We are conscious that the road to return to democracy in Honduras is long. We recognize the brave and important role of the Popular resistance against the coup d'état in Honduras in Honduras, and also the key role of human rights organizations in the defense of democracy and human rights in Honduras. We are committed  to continue accompanying them with solidarity in this historic struggle.
